Whole peeled San Marzano tomatoes from Gustarosso, a Sarnese-Nocerino cooperative growing under the Pomodoro San Marzano dell'Agro Sarnese-Nocerino DOP. The DOP designation requires the tomatoes be grown in the volcanic soil at the foot of Vesuvius, hand-picked and packed within 24 hours of harvest. Each tin includes the consortium seal.
About this product
Flesh is firm, low-acid and seed-light, which is what makes the variety the standard for Neapolitan pizza sauce and Sunday gravy. The packing liquid is tomato juice — no added paste, citric acid or calcium chloride beyond what the DOP rules permit.
